I love the ways in which ceramics is related to experimentation and adventure. It feels extremely empowering to take an image in my mind or on a piece of paper and translate it to a 3-D form.
I have focused much of my practice on utilitarian objects such as Ollas and clay baskets and thumb cups, and I also like creating things that remind me of place-- in particular, the tidepools of Clayoquat Sound near Tofino, BC.

One of my ollas
Clay basket [various sizes, gold leaf added in a 2nd glaze firing]
Tidepool Still Life
Mother of Pearl added to urchins in 2nd glaze firing]
Thumb Cup
[small-- meant for sake, water, green tea, etc] Gold leaf added during a 2nd glaze firing
Ollas are a traditional irrigation solution, utilized in arid societies around the globe, including China, the Middle East, and Central and South America for over 1000 years.
Fired through Bisque only, these porous vessels are used by gardeners to:
Increase the drought tolerance of plants like tomatoes, peppers and squash by encouraging deep root growth
Reduce weeds [by reducing the need to surface water]
Eliminate/minimize plastic waste in the garden
